BIS Certification is Obligatory for Import of IT and Electronic Products in India

--

BIS Certification| BIS Registration

BIS certification allows you to have a third party guarantee of the commanded quality, safety, and integrity of the particular product to the customers.

Importing electronics and information technology (IT) products without Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) registration is now banned in India.

The country is narrowing quality controls for electronic products to put a limitation on an accelerating import of inexpensive electronic items, peculiarly from China, and augment local manufacturing under its Make in India program.

As per this nation’s substantial appetite for imported electronic products, it is quintessential for importers and foreign manufacturers to obtain each aspect of compliance right. Failure to do so can make a hole in a business owner’s hole and hamper a business’s credibility.

What exactly is BIS?

BIS is a national body that functions as a product certification scheme to preserve the quality, safety, and consistency of products in India. The BIS certification is not a constant standard or command that applies to every product. Rather than, products are controlled by a particular IS (Indian Standard).

Let’s discover some of the prominent steps and procedures for cataloguing products with BIS in India.

  • It is imperative to get the product tested from any one of the laboratories that have gained BIS recognition. All vital elements must be acknowledged by the engineering unit and the test report of every component must be deferred to the lab, if applicable.
  • The test report must be dispensed only in the name of the applicant who is genuinely creating the product and must inform the name of the manufacturing unit along with the entire address of the production unit.
  • Prior to submitting the application for registration in BIS, the applicant must make certain that the test report is assessed and complete.
  • Download and complete the application form number VI and VII available on the BIS website.
  • To apply, submit all BIS registration documents along with the test reports.
  • Once the application gets completed, the documents will be proved by the BIS officers and the registration will be approved within 15 days. The registration is approved for two years and can be renewed every two years if there is no alteration in the product and the standard.
